// ABANDON HOPE for Quake 2
// Sluggo's Readme

What you've downloaded here is the classic Abandon Hope modification for Quake 2. As mods go, it was fairly simple: it added some extra powerups to deathmatch, and included all sorts of voice taunts that you could play for everyone to hear. As Quake 2 mods go, it certainly wasn't as ambitious as, say, Loki's Minions CTF or Weapons Factory, but it was a fun little mod, especially at LAN parties.

Sadly, Quake 2's days eventually passed away and apparently, so did this mod. While most modifications seem to live on forever in remote corners of the Internet, Abandon Hope completely vanished. Since I used to run a website that reviewed Quake 2 mods (planetquake.com/modcentral) and once wrote about Abandon Hope for PlanetQuake's Mod of the Week column, I've received several requests over the years for help tracking down the mod.

Since I've been unable to find the original version, I finally dug out my old P266 that I used to play Quake 2 on, zipped up the /AbandonHope directory, and handed it off to the guys at Fileplanet. That's what you have now. As a result, all the settings from the /autoexec file are not the original, but from my own machine, so you'll probably want to adjust them yourself. Everything else should be in place and working correctly, so hopefully this mod can live again for that dedicated bunch of players still playing Quake 2.

Enjoy!
